banana pie ice cream

When it comes to favorite desserts from childhood, I find it nearly impossible to decide between the cold custard ice cream from the local Jarling’s Custard Cup back home or my mom’s homemade pies. The tragedy to choose between one or the other is like having to decide between candy at Halloween or gifts at Christmas.

Thank goodness the French gave us “á la mode”.

However, for this Throwback Thursday treat, we thought we’d have a little fun. Usually you find pie accompanied by a side of ice cream. This time we’re flipping it around. Let’s try ice cream with a side of pie!

serves 8

2 c heavy whipping cream

1 can sweetened condensed milk

2 bananas, over ripe

1 c graham crackers, crumbled

In a large chilled bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff.

In a separate smaller bowl, pour in your condensed milk. Add bananas and smash. Mix thoroughly.

Add the crumbled graham crackers to the banana mixture.

Pour banana mixture into the whipped cream. Gently fold just until combined.

Transfer to a freezer safe bowl and securely cover. Leave in freezer for 6 hours or overnight.
